Hunger is a problem all over the globe, but it is also an issue right here in Kershaw County. There are many at risk students in our Kershaw County Schools who are in a position where they have few options for meals on weekends and holidays. Out of concern for the well-being of these students, a ministry was formed called Sacks of Love Kershaw County. This ministry presently has 36 churches participating and serves around 400 children during the school year, and some receive this ministry year round.
The purpose of Sacks of Love is to provide sacks filled with nutritious food that children take home on weekends. The food is child-friendly and nonperishable. In cooperation with the Kershaw County School District, Sacks of Love are distributed through our public schools. Principals, guidance counselors, nurses and teachers identify students who have little or no food to eat on the weekends. The Sacks of Love are then discreetly distributed to children on the last day of school before the weekend or holiday vacation.
Friendship Baptist Church of Lugoff is holding a car wash to raise funds and awareness of this need in Kershaw County. The car wash will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 29th at Friendship Church. The church is located at 1056 Highway 1 South in Lugoff. Cash, checks, and credit card donations will be received to support this ministry.
